How Financial Aid Gets to YOU

Mt. San Antonio College 2024-2025 Award Year

  1. Request for Funds: Made from the Department of Education (ED) and California State Aid Commission (CSAC).
  2. Refund Processed: A refund is processed only if the award is greater than the amount owed.
    1. When we use the term "refund," we refer to the process of depositing the full amount of awarded financial aid into a student’s account. It is then the student's responsibility to use these funds to pay for tuition and fees. This system ensures students receive their full financial aid amount directly, allowing them to manage their educational expenses.
  3. Refund Delivery Options via BankMobile: Checking account, Vibe account, or paper check.

Late Start Classes

Please be aware that if you enroll in late start classes, your financial aid disbursement will be scheduled to coincide with the start of those classes.

Freeze and Pell Recalculation

At Mt. San Antonio College, each semester includes a Pell Recalculation Date, commonly referred to as the "freeze date." This date is crucial for determining each student’s enrollment level and consequently their eligibility for financial aid awards for that semester. On the Pell Recalculation Date, we will record each student’s unit load (number of units enrolled) as of that date. Any classes added or dropped after this date will not affect the student’s financial aid unit load for that semester.

It's important to note, however, that students who withdraw from all classes or receive grades of F, W, EW, IA, IB, IC, NP, or IP in all classes will be subject to a review of their eligibility. This may result in the requirement to repay some or all of the financial aid funds to Mt. SAC and/or the Department of Education. Additionally, students who never attend class will see a reduction in Pell Grant eligibility and may be required to repay part or all of the Pell Grant received if deemed ineligible.

Financial aid awards are initially based on full-time enrollment (12 or more units). If you are enrolled part-time, your award offer will remain as initially presented, but the payment will be adjusted accordingly. Enrollment is reviewed and locked in at the Freeze Date for each semester. Your Pell Grant amount will be adjusted to reflect your enrollment status at that time. No further adjustments to payments will be made once enrollment has been frozen.

Disbursements

At Mt. San Antonio College, financial aid is directly deposited into students’ accounts as a "refund." Students are responsible for using these funds to pay any outstanding charges related to their registration for classes. It is the student's responsibility to manage their funds effectively and ensure that all tuition and fees are paid. Not all financial aid funds are disbursable (e.g., California College Promise Grant), and the amount of financial aid received may vary based on the number of units for which the student is enrolled at the time of disbursement.

Electronic Deposit Options

Students will receive a Refund Selection Kit via email and in the mail. Follow the steps to choose your preference for receiving financial aid refunds. More information available at BankMobile.

Track Your Disbursement

Disbursements at Mt. San Antonio College begin the week before the first day of the semester. All students who meet the eligibility requirements and Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards are considered for the initial disbursement. Please note that disbursement dates may vary for classes that start later in the semester. For more information, contact the Financial Aid Office.

Students will observe a negative balance in their Mt. SAC Portal once the disbursement process commences. Following a payment request by Mt. SAC, it typically takes 5-10 business days (excluding weekends and holidays) for the funds to be processed and transferred to the student’s selected refund preference. This negative balance will be resolved once the funds have been transferred to BankMobile, a service provided by BMTX, Inc. Students who have opted to receive notifications from BankMobile will be informed once their refund has been deposited into their chosen account. Please be aware that the amount of grant disbursements depends on the number of units the student is enrolled in as of the freeze date each semester. Disbursement schedules are subject to adjustments without prior notification.
