Julie Marquez, Ed.D.

Dr. Julie Marquez began her professional career working at The Fulfillment Fund, a non-profit organization. As the Lead College Access Advisor she advised high school students in the Los Angeles area and helped them gain access to college. Two years later, she earned the opportunity to serve as the Coordinator of Upward Bound at UCI. UCI's Upward Bound Program served students in Anaheim. Having grown up in Anaheim, she felt it was the perfect fit.  After serving as the Coordinator for three years, she moved on to become the Director of Upward Bound Program at Norco College. While working at Norco College she also taught a counseling class and served as an adjunct counselor at Fullerton College. Four years later, Dr. Marquez decided to take the opportunity to become Coastline College's EOPS/CARE/CAFYES & CalWORKs Director.  Looking for a more traditional environment Dr. Marquez decided to come lead Mt. SAC's EOPS/CARE Program. Dr. Marquez has now been serving in this role for over two years.

Personal Background: Dr. Marquez comes from a low-income, first-generation background. She was born in a small town in the state of Mexico. She immigrated to the United States with her parents in 1986. Her parents were in search of better educational opportunities. This was especially important to her dad who only completed the 6th grade. She is forever thankful to her parents who risked it all to come to this country. It is because of her parents that she was able to follow and achieve her dreams.

Dr. Marquez loves traveling and has been fortunate enough to travel to Italy, Spain, Morocco, Turkey, Greece, Mexico, Costa Rica, Bahamas, El Salvador, Argentina, Chile, China, Thailand, New Zealand and other countries. She loves trying new food but her favorite is Sushi followed by Thai food. On her spare time, she loves to read, hike and venture out to new cities with her family.
