The Speech & Sign Success Tutoring Center, or SSSC, is designed to help students succeed in classes from two departments: The Communication Department and the Sign Language and Interpreting Department. We have moved back to our renovated space in 26B - 1551.

Winter 2026 Hours:

  • Mondays 9:00am - 3:00pm
  • Tuesdays 9:00am - 3:00pm
  • Wednesdays 9:00am - 3:00pm
  • Online Zoom appointments start at 9:30am

We offer appointments both in-person and via Zoom. But, you must register in order to use tutoring and all other services in our Center.

Register in 3 easy steps! 

1. Write down the 5-digit CRN (or Course Registration Number) that you will need to register. The course is free and non-credit!

Communication CRN: 31719

Sign Language and Interpreting CRN: 31720

2. Important: Log into the Mt. SAC Student Portal and choose the option to Register (add a class). Be sure to choose the correct term!

3. Finally, Enter the 5-digit CRN from above and submit.  Note: If it says there is an error that states you are already enrolled in another learning support course, submit again and on the second time it will go through.

After registering, you will see a non-credit course show up on your schedule and you will also see a Canvas course populate in your Canvas Dashboard. From there, click on the SSSC Tutoring Canvas course, browse the videos & links offered, and get information about the Center.

Meet with a Tutor 

We have tutors available in the Center to help you with your Communication classes and your Sign Language and Interpreting classes. How can you meet with a tutor? The most common classes we tutor for are COMM C1000, COMM 2, and SIGN 101-105, but if you need help in another class,  please inquire. Below is some of what we can help you with for your classes.

  • Communication Classes: Topic Selection, Research, Main Point Development, Outlining, Source Citation, Delivery, Visual Aids, Works Cited, Making Note Cards, and More! We also have over a dozen DLA Workshops, or Directed Learning Activities (handout-based workshops where you work to complete a communication/public speaking related activity with a tutor getting real-time feedback).   • Sign Language and Interpreting Classes: DLA feedback, Conversations in ASL with a Tutor, Vocabulary Review, Test Preparation, Videos and Tutor Feedback on Submitted Videos, and More!

How to Schedule an Appointment

  • Online: Use the Navigate where you can see the schedule and make your own appointment on your smart phone (via the app) or via Navigate on your student portal .
  • In-person/Phone: Simply schedule an appointment directly with a worker at our front desk. Call (909) 274-6297 and speak directly with one of our staff members during our scheduled hours. Please note, we cannot take appointments via voicemail messages left by students. 

Walk-Ins Welcome (but Appointments encouraged)

  • You can walk into the Center and see if a tutor can help if there is no wait (we recommend an appointment since the Center can get busy)

Resources:

  • Video Rooms: The Speech and Sign Success Center has multiple video rooms for practice, recording, and tutoring.
  • Free Note Cards: We have 3x5 inch and 4x6 inch note cards free of charge!
  • Computers and Printing: The SSSC has touch screen PC computers with recording capability and Microsoft Word. We also allow students to print up to five pages a day for free as long as it is related to their Communication assignments or Sign Language and Interpreting assignments. 
  • Study Areas: We have limited table space that will allow you to work on assignments, plug in your charging device, or work with a peer to do homework.
