Writing and Reading

Students are placed into all writing classes at Mt. SAC via the Guided Self-Placement process. Please contact AskAmLa@mtsac.edu.

Speaking, Grammar, and Culture Classes

There are no requirements for enrollment in AMLA speaking or grammar classes, so any Mt. SAC student who is registered for credit classes may take them.

Because of the level of course content, students wishing to enroll in AMLA 83 (Idiomatic English) are advised to be eligible for AMLA 80 (Intermediate Writing), and students wishing to enroll in AMLA 92 (Formal Speaking) are advised to be eligible for AMLA 90 (Advanced Writing).

For students wishing to study the Culture course, AmLa 98, eligiblity for AmLa 90 Accelerated Writing for English Language Learners is advised.
