At Mt. SAC, you must be SPOT-certified and recertify every 4 years to teach online.

The current faculty contract specifies: “SPOT certification is valid for a period of four (4) years. Every four (4) years, professors will be required to obtain a recertification ... approved by the Academic Senate, not to exceed four (4) hours.” -- (13.A.3) in the Faculty Contract

To Complete your Recertification

Online professors already know: using technology for teaching is a continuous learning process!
Because technology and regulations are subject to change, you must refresh your skills with 4 hours of training each four years. Through the end of the 2025 recertification cycle, you must submit your recertification. Not sure when your recertification is due? Check your next recertification due date on the SPOT Certified Faculty Page

    • How do I find my POD Transcript?
      • Sign in to the POD Connect Calendar with your Mt. SAC credentials.
      • From the POD Connect menu, select "Transcript."

in the pod button menu, transcript is the middle button

      • From here you can look at completed professional learning activities by selecting "Completed" from under "Training Status" pulldown menu in the upper left corner.

in the upper left corner of an individual transcript, select "Completed" from the pull down menu to see completed professional learning activities.

      • Alternatively, you can download a Transcript report from the three dots in the upper right corner.

When on one's transcript page in POD, the upper right corner has three dots where transcript reports are found.

      • To have your professional learning information handy, you can opt to export your transcript, print your transcript or "Run Transcript Report" from this location.
      • If you opt to "Run Transcript Report," you can limit the transcript to the dates that count toward your current SPOT recertification, which is a four-year window that ends on July 31  of the year your recertification is due and starts exactly 4 years earlier on Aug 1. For example, if your recertification is due on July 31, 2025, your recertifying activities had to take place between Aug 1, 2021 and July 31, 2025. transcript report selection opens a pop-up window with options to filter what is included in the report.
    • What do I need to submit for recertification?

You will need a Certificate of Completion either from POD or @ONE. Please make certain that upload either a PDF or document file. Please submit all your documentation at one time.

      • Go to your POD transcript as described in the last accordion. Go to the completed items in your transcript.

in the upper left corner of an individual transcript, select "Completed" from the pull down menu to see completed professional learning activities.

      • Click on "View Certificate" at the right end of the line next to the item.

View Certificate is a pulldown menu at the right end of any completed POD item. Clicking "View certificate" will open the certificate in a pop-up windowr

      • When you click on the option to "View Certificate" the certificate will open in a pop-up window. Use controls in the upper right corner to download or print the item or alternatively you can use right-click (PC) or its equivalent on a Mac (control-click or secondary click) to access the "Print" option and print to PDF.
      • Do this for each item that you wish to use toward your SPOT recertification and upload the items to your SPOT recertification form as attachments.

If you have any difficulty accessing your transcript, contact POD for assistance. If you have issues adding items to the SPOT recertification form, please contact FCLT.

    • What happens after I submit my Recertification Form?
Please give us a full business week to review and process your submission. Once processed, we will send you a confirmation email that your submission has been approved and your information will be updated on our SPOT Certified Faculty Page where your division can verify your eligibility for online courses.
    • Do Canvas Workshops count for recertification?
Most do! You can use our search engine (or search below) to find Canvas workshops related to Distance Learning that have been approved by the Distance Learning Committee for SPOT recertification. Basic Canvas workshops such as Growing with Canvas do not count because you are expected to have basic Canvas knowledge before becoming DL-certified.
    • Do you have self-paced workshops?
Yes, we have several approved self-paced workshops. In the search tool above, select "self-paced" under "Workshop Type," to filter to the available self-paced workshops. Here you will also find the link to sign up. Some self-paced workshops are hosted in POD and others are hosted in Canvas.
You can also review a list of available workshops on the Canvas Faculty Center Self-Paced Workshops page.
    • My course was quality-badged through the Peer Online Course Review (POCR) process. Is my certification for that enough to submit?
First, congratulations on completing POCR! If you received a quality-badged certificate during the 4 year period, please submit that. Regulations Update is still required, however.
    • Can I submit my recertification early?
You can complete activities any time in the 4-year window, but you can only submit your recertification in the academic year in which it is due. We cannot process requests that are submitted early. For example, if your due date is 7/31/2025, you can submit anytime during the 2024-2025 academic year. If you submit earlier, we will ask you to wait until your recertification is actually due. This helps our recordkeeping processes.
