Scholarships

A history of limited opportunity is common among our students. Most are economically disadvantaged, first in their families to attend college, or single parents creating their own opportunities. Returning veterans, long-time learners, and people with disabilities are among those who choose Mt. SAC as their institution of higher education because of the wide-ranging programs we offer and the supportive environment we provide.

One of the direct ways you can impact the Mt. SAC student experience is through our scholarship program. Since financial hardship remains the largest obstacle our students face in pursuit of their educational dreams, we address that challenge head-on by providing scholarship support. Over the years, thanks to many generous people, the Mt. SAC Foundation has awarded millions of dollars in scholarship funds to hardworking and deserving students.

Applying for a Scholarship

Scholarships are available to Mt. SAC students for a variety of purposes and from a variety of sources. To apply for a scholarship, or learn more about the process, visit the Mt. SAC Scholarship Program Office online.

Giving to a General Scholarship

The Mt. SAC Foundation Scholarship is a general, need-based award open to any current Mt. SAC student who plans to return in the fall semester. This fund allows donors to support student success without needing to establish an individual $1,500 scholarship.

Creating a Named Scholarship

Creating a memorial scholarship is a wonderful way to remember a loved one and create a meaningful legacy. In addition to honoring your loved one, the memorial scholarship will provide much-needed support to a student in the area of your choosing. - How does it work?
  After one or more donors have provided the minimum funds, our scholarship team will work with you to determine the criteria for the scholarship. We will announce the scholarship and facilitate the application process. Based on your criteria, our existing scholarship committee will review applications and select the recipient/s, who will be announced at the annual scholarship ceremony in June. You will be notified of the winner and, if additional funds are raised, we will continue to notify you and work with you to either increase the scholarship amount or award additional scholarships as appropriate.
- How much do I need to donate?
  A new scholarship requires a gift of $1,500 to start with. This can be a one-time gift from a single donor, or can be raised through multiple gifts from multiple donors. To continue the legacy, we suggest a gift of $7,500 to cover at least one $1,500 scholarship per year over the next 5 years. Either way, we can get started after the initial $1,500 gift is received.
- How is the scholarship awarded?
  Once the minimum gift has been made, the family can set the criteria for the award. Potential criteria include: a GPA requirement, a required number of enrolled hours, membership in a specific club or program, and/or working toward a degree in a specified field.
  After the criteria is determined the scholarship committee will select the recipient. Criteria must be finalized by mid-February for applications to be submitted in April and to award the scholarship in June.
  Donors may request annual updates on how much was raised and awarded scholarships.

26L Scholarship founded by Jerrica and Bryce Gordon	Bryce & Jerrica Gordon	Bryce and Jerrica (née Morales) Gordon both grew up in the Mt. SAC area and were drawn to the school because of its Aviation Program. They competed together on the Mt. SAC flying team and made lifelong friends in the program. The Mt. SAC flight program formed the foundation for the Gordons’ relationship and their approach to life. The values of education, dedication, and team work that they learned at Mt. SAC are still with them. In fact, they love Mt. SAC so much that they even had their wedding reception in August 2010 at the Mt. SAC hangar at Brackett Field. For their ten-year wedding anniversary, they knew the only way to celebrate was to give back to the community that has given them so much.	Technology and Health Division
Abelina Galustian Memorial Scholarship	Friends & Family of Abelina Galustian	Born in Tehran, Iran, to Armenian parents of the diaspora, Dr. Abelina Galustian lived most of her life as a local artist and art historian in Glendale, California. During her short life, Abelina pursued two master’s degrees (in Fine Art and Art History) and her PhD in Art History. Through both her feminist art and scholarship, she awed viewers and readers alike with her work, challenging people to see the world differently and to visually consider the invisible politics of gender in new and dynamic ways. Abelina’s potential was limitless, and through this scholarship, we hope that her dedication to feminist art and art history will live on exponentially in future generations. Adib Hasnat Memorial Scholarship	Habib & Aklima Hasnat	Adib, the only son of Aklima and Habib Hasnat, was a talented young man full of promise and potential. He was studying Electrical Engineering at Mt. San Antonio College, and had just been accepted to the University of California, Irvine when his young soul was lost in a tragic car accident on May 7, 2017. Adib had a relaxed surfer vibe, kind of an all-American Bangladeshi kid with a love of hiking, the beach, reading, chess, video games, Doritos, Cheetos, and fried chicken. He was always in a genial mood and was gifted with a warmth and gentleness that shined brightly in every setting, which put everyone with whom he came into contact fully at ease. His remarkable blend of humor, loyalty, and one-of-a-kind intelligence touched many lives. Driven by a strong sense of duty instead of a desire for money, Adib sacrificed his time to benefit causes bigger than himself. His contribution, passion and dedication to public service will inspire the next generation of young activists for years to come. His memory and spirit, however, will live on, and continue to inform and inspire the family and friends who are all better for having shared him. Along with Mika Merino, a faculty who teaches French in Mt SAC, they make their contribution to the tradition of rewarding an outstanding French student for the decision to continue the study of French at a four-year institution (major or minor). Art Mazmanian Memorial Athletic Scholarship	Art Mazmanian	This award is named in memory of Art Mazmanian – an All-American second baseman for USC’s first College World Series championship team, long-time minor league manager, U.S. Olympic baseball team coach, and a beloved Mountie. On the occasion of naming Mazmanian Field, a scholarship in the name of Mt. SAC’s star baseball coach Art Mazmanian was established in his honor. Bap & Geeta Kakade Family Endowed Scholarship	Geeta Kakade	Since her brother opened doors for her by paying for her college education in India, Geeta Kakade knows what a difference financial aid can make to a student's life. The Bap & Geeta family-endowed scholarship is offered to help unlock the door to success through education for others.
Baudelia Martinez Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	Tampico Spice Co., Inc.	This award is offered to a student who has demonstrated involvement and/or support in the Hispanic/Latino community.
Beth Spicer Memorial Scholarship	Mt. SAC Dance Department Faculty	Mt. San Antonio College established the Beth Spicer Memorial Dance Scholarship in 1982 in memory of the endeared professor whose passion and enthusiasm for the arts nurtured the College’s dance program into a first-rate creative force. Beth joined the Mt. Sac faculty in 1956. And over the ensuing 25 years, she inspired students and touched many lives with her warmth, her honesty and that calming smile, until she lost her battle with cancer in September 1981. Through the dance program and in many other personal ways, Beth will remain with us always.

Bollier Family Softball Scholarship	Bollier Family	This scholarship is established in honor and recognition of Jim Bollier’ 16 years as Mt. SAC Assistant Softball Coach and Sandra Bollier’ 30 years of dedication to Mt. SAC students as a Financial Aid Specialist. Together, Coach B and Mama B have contributed to building champions in competition and success in their student athlete’s college education. This scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding member of the Mt. SAC Softball Team who will be transferring to a four-year college or university.
Borka Tomljenovic Memorial Scholarship	Dr. Beta Meyer	Borka Tomljenovic was a self-educated writer of successful Serbo-Croatian/English dictionaries and books of life and customs in former Yugoslavia starting in the early 1900s. She lived through World War II, socialization and later collapse of her country and was a refugee multiple times in her life. She immigrated to the United States in 1991 during civil war in Yugoslavia and became a naturalized citizen ten years later. This scholarship is for students who have faced either cultural, language, citizenship, or immigration barriers in education, to assist them to persist in education.
Bridge Program Legacy Scholarship	Bridge Program Alumni and Staff	The Bridge Program was established in 1997 and continues to support first-generation college students. Bridge was founded on the values of community, success, and a positive learning environment. This scholarship was established by Bridge Program alumni and staff to support current Bridge students as they navigate college to reach their academic and personal goals.

California Retired Teachers Association, Division #13 Scholarship	California Retired Teachers Association, Division #13	This award is offered to current students enrolled in the Teacher Preparation Program to continue their studies in the area of Education.
Captain Bruce and Laurie Gibbs Memorial Scholarship	Gibbs Family Trust	Bruce Gibbs enjoyed a 39-year flying career with United Airlines. The Mt. SAC Aviation Program started him down a pathway that truly changed his life. Bruce wanted to honor and thank original instructors Harold (Pappy) Biell, Don Sjoberg, Russ Hanson, and Bob Elliot by helping to make opportunities available to committed commercial aviation students. Bruce traveled the world, met his flight attendant wife Laurie and enjoyed a wonderful lifestyle all because of his commercial aviation career. At the end of his life, Bruce felt that contributing to a student’s future aviation career would be a lasting legacy.
Captain Robert C. Borer, Jr. Memorial Scholarship	Dr. Beta Meyer	Captain Borer is a retired Air Force officer. Having spent time stationed in Anchorage, AK and France, he served in Vietnam as a medical doctor in charge of transports. After leaving the service he continued treating patients in various capacities, as a successful neonatologist in the U.S., establishing a regional neonatal intensive care unit in Qatar, and transporting critically ill babies between London and the U.S. for treatment. He spent his early retirement years with his grandchildren and volunteering his time in a hyperbaric unit at Long Beach Memorial Hospital to assist under-served populations. He has since moved to Australia to assist impoverished communities. He and his wife, a practicing nurse, sail through the islands on a monthly basis providing medical care to local communities. Captain Borer has spent most of his life traveling and searching for peace after his time in the service. He found it exploring the world. His daughter established this scholarship to honor his amazing achievements while supporting veterans in his name. Like her father, she wants veterans to know that there are people who want to help, and that life after service can be very rewarding.
Carl and Carolyn Veazie Nursing Memorial Scholarship	Anne Veazie Sonner and David Sonner	This scholarship is in memory of Anne's parents, who were great believers in education, especially for the important career of nursing.
Carol E. Ford Original Faculty Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	Barbara Ford Harrington	Carol E. Ford was one of the original faculty members at Mt. SAC. Her teaching included general business classes, business law, and economics. Carol was very active in all aspects of campus life and was the faculty sponsor for several clubs on campus. Upon retiring, she served with the Mt. SAC Foundation.
Carter Doran Memorial Scholarship	Constance Doran	This scholarship supports outstanding students in the area of Performing Arts who will be continuing their studies at a four-year university.
Ceja Family REACH Scholarship	Sue & Jared Ceja	The Ceja Family Scholarship is awarded to a transferring Honors student who has persevered through life's obstacles while demonstrating academic excellence.
Chris Perry Memorial Scholarship	The Friends & Family of Chris Perry	This award is established in honor of William “Chris” Perry who at the age of 28, in March of 2008, was taken from this earth but not from our hearts. A product of the community college system, Chris went on to play football at the University of La Verne where he forged lifelong friendships with his teammates and earned a degree in History. Chris was truly dedicated to his family and friends with a smile that was breathtaking. He was a wonderful father to Darius and Andre, a devoted son to Wy, and a best friend to many. This award is given in honor of Chris’ success as a student athlete. The Chris Perry Memorial Scholarship was established in his memory to honor a student who, like Chris, has demonstrated a dedication to the sport of football, will transfer to a four‐year university, and is majoring in the Social Sciences.
Chuck and Rosanne Bader Endowed Scholarship	Trustee Emeritus Rosanne Bader	This scholarship supports outstanding students in the area of community and public service who will be attending a four year University. It is presented by the Bader family in memory of Chuck Bader who, as Mayor of Pomona and a California Assemblyman was a strong supporter of Community Colleges and Mt. Sac in particular. Rosanne was elected and served on the Mt. SAC Board of Trustees for 17 years from 2003 to 2020.
Covina Rotary Club Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	Covina Rotary Club	The Covina Rotary Club was founded in 1923 as one of the first Rotary Clubs in the San Gabriel Valley. The club is one of the oldest, most respected in the area and has served the community and the world while having a great time in the process. The Covina Rotary Club is involved in local, community based service projects, providing both financial and hands-on support. The group also supports the Rotary International Foundation in its many projects around the world, including the "Polio Plus" global polio eradication effort. The Covina Rotary Club is a long-time supporter of Mt. SAC and the success of student scholars.
Covina Woman’s Club Scholarship	Covina Woman’s Club	Covina Woman’s Club is the oldest service club in Covina. They are a non-profit, philanthropic 501 (c)(3) organization whose members have made a positive difference in the community over the years and continue to do so. The Covina Woman’s Club dedicates themselves to education, fine arts, health and safety, veterans’ needs and youth activities. They provide scholarship funds to local high schools, Cal Poly Pomona University and Mt. SAC.
Cross Cultural Scholarship, part of the Associated Students Scholarships	Mt. SAC Associated Students	This scholarship is intended to help students who are current members of the International Student Club.
Damon Scott Jones Memorial Scholarship	Susan Jones	This scholarship was established by Damon Jones’ mother, former Director of Financial Aid at Mt. SAC. The scholarship honors Damon’s passion for helping those in need. The scholarship is intended to assist students who have financial need, but do not qualify for federal aid.
Daniel Anderson Memorial Scholarship	Mt. SAC Physics & Engineering	This award has been established in memory of Physics and Engineering Professor Daniel Patrick Anderson. A former Mt. SAC student who transferred to UCLA for his bachelor’s in physics and then went on to earn a master’s in engineering from Cal Poly Pomona University, Daniel taught both physics and engineering during his 18 years as a Mt. SAC faculty member. Professor Anderson was well known for coaching our highly successful Robotics Team and was one of the original faculty mentors who helped create Mt. SAC’s STEM Center. Daniel was passionate about helping students and regularly worked with them on independent study classes. Daniel was especially instrumental in inspiring students to consider and pursue engineering as a career.
Dante P. Santiago Memorial Scholarship	Christine Santiago	Education is of the utmost importance in the Philippine culture. It is not only a measure of success, but it is the integral tool to shape one's future. To commemorate Dante's genuine desire to see students succeed, particularly those who are financially challenged, his family has established this scholarship.
David Burke Memorial Scholarship	Sandra Burke-Weatherilt, Elizabeth Burke, and Susan Burke-Majerus	The David Burke Memorial Scholarship is named in memory of a man deeply loved by his family who had a passion for swimming and water polo. David Burke dedicated his life to his family through love and hard work. Born and raised on the island of Barbados in the Caribbean, he was a man of the sea, participated in swimming and water polo for most of his young life, and represented his country in the Pan American Games of 1970 in water polo. In 1985 his work for the airline Air Canada moved him to California with his wife Elizabeth and two daughters Susan and Sandra. He believed in the value of education for which both of his daughters pursued advanced degrees. The David Burke Memorial Scholarship is to honor him, a loving husband, father and grandfather and to assist a deserving student in his/her educational goals.
David Leonard Memorial Scholarship	Robin Leonard	This scholarship was created in loving memory of David Leonard who passed away at the age of eight. David was cheerful and loving, and had a smile that lit the room. Through his smile, he was able to spread his sense of joy and helpfulness to all those around him. His birth inspired his mother to pursue a path within the medical field. His spirit will continue to drive us to contribute positivity to this world.
David Mendoza Veteran Memorial Scholarship	Natalie & Miguel Paredes	The David Mendoza Memorial Veteran's Scholarship is in honor of Vietnam Veteran David Mendoza. David competed in the 1964 Mt. SAC Relays and Cross Country Invitational as a high school student. He later graduated from Mt. SAC.
David White Memorial Field Scholarship	Earth Sciences and Astronomy Faculty	With the spirit of an adventurer and the heart of a lion, David shared the natural world with us all through the artistry of his photography. Meeting the educators at Mt. SAC awoke a feeling in him that further caused him to engage with life and to be an active participant in all the opportunities that crossed his path. Studying earth sciences as a student, and later simply volunteering in the field was truly one of his greatest joys.
Debbie Boroch Memorial Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	The Colleagues and Friends of Debbie Boroch	This scholarship was established in honor of Mt. SAC employee Debbie Boroch. Debbie was a true daughter of the Mt. SAC family, having begun as a student here and giving almost her entire career to Mt. SAC. From teaching in the Biological Sciences Department, Debbie advanced to Associate Dean of the Natural Science Division and finally served as Dean of Instruction for the entire college. Debbie spearheaded many successful projects aimed at assisting under-prepared students with higher education, especially in math and science. This scholarship honors Debbie’s passion and dedication to Mt. SAC students.
Dexter MacBride Leadership Scholarship, part of the Associated Students Scholarships	Mt. SAC Associated Students	This scholarship awards students who have made a contribution to the Mt. SAC community and have been in leadership positions and programs at the College.
Diana Berger Endowed Scholarship – Commercial and Entertainment Arts	Diana Berger Estate	The Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) is proud to present the Diana Berger Endowed Scholarship – Commercial and Entertainment Arts, a prestigious scholarship opportunity generously established through a remarkable $3 million gift from the esteemed Diana Berger. Dr. Bill Feddersen Leadership/Service Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	Dr. Bill Feddersen	This award is endowed in the name of Mt. SAC's sixth President who served as CEO/President from 1991 until his retirement in 2002. Under his leadership, the College constructed the Student Services and Performing Arts Centers, renovated the Library, and passed a $221 million dollar facilities improvement bond measure in 2001. In recognition of his support of student leaders, this award is given to a student demonstrating outstanding leadership qualities.

The purpose of this fund is to provide an annual award to the “Student Director” of the Chamber Singers Choir at Mt. San Antonio College.
Dr. David K. Hall Business Scholarship	Estate of David K. Hall, Hitchcock Automotive, & Family and Friends of David K. Hall	The purpose of this award is to provide financial support for a current Mt. SAC student who is majoring in Business or Economics and is committed to pursuing a professional career in private business. The scholarship was created by Dr. David K. Hall, a business executive in the City of Industry who served on the Mt. SAC Board of Trustees from 1995 to 2018.
Dr. Lance Wilcher Memorial Scholarship	Mt. SAC Nursing Faculty	A Mt. SAC graduate, Dr. Lance Wilcher grew up locally. After earning his A.A., he received his Bachelor and Master of Science Degrees in Nursing from USC and his Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Western University. Lance worked with the Mt. SAC Nursing Department since 2005 and was respected and loved by his colleagues, staff, and students. In addition to his many roles on campus, he also worked as a nurse practitioner in an emergency room, which kept him up to date in medicine. Lance was a talented instructor who demonstrated a passion for teaching and kept students engaged in learning. Throughout all the academic and career accomplishments, he was most proud of his family.
Dr. Leslie Joe Enloe Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	Dr. Joe Enloe	Joe Enloe, M.D. attended Mt. SAC from 1953-1955 and served as manager for the football team, ran cross-country and track, and graduated with honors. He attended USC on an Alpha Gamma Sigma Scholarship he received from Mt. SAC and fulfilled his lifelong goal of entering medical school and becoming a doctor. He graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Medicine and received his M.D. in 1960, and was admitted to Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honorary Society. After college, Dr. Enloe served in the Medical Army Corps, worked for Kaiser in Oakland, and became Chief of Surgery and Director of the Surgical Residency Program. Dr. Enloe has served in many offices and on many boards at USC over the past 50 years and received an Alumni Service Award from USC in 1987. Dr. Enloe and his wife Joan have four children. In 1994, Dr. Enloe was recognized as Mt. SAC’s Alumnus of the Year. Dr. Enloe retired in 2004 after nearly 40 years of service with Kaiser Permanente. This scholarship, established in appreciation for the education, fellowship, human contact, and scholarship Dr. Enloe received while attending Mt. SAC, rewards a student for not only academic achievement but also all around involvement.

SAC welcomes all veterans and provides support and resources as they transition from soldier to civilian. In other words, from taking orders to taking exams and writing papers. Dr. Manuel Baca is a leader for Mt. SAC in the capacity of a member of the Board of Trustees. Before serving the College, he served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

Dr. Robert Meyer Memorial Scholarship	Dr. Beta Meyer	Dr. Robert Meyer was a proud Mexican American and Mescalero Apache who was the first in his family to get a college degree. He earned a doctorate in English, and advanced to become Dean of Humanities at Sierra College. He worked for equity, enlightenment and tolerance his entire career. This scholarship is to support an El Centro student to follow their dream in education.
Dream Program Resiliency Scholarship	Elmer Rodriguez	This scholarship was created by Elmer Rodriguez, Coordinator of the Dream Program, to help program participants reach their educational goals. This scholarship was created to honor Elmer's mother, Rosa Ortega, who is an “original” Dreamer. She left her native El Salvador to come to this country for better opportunities. As a single parent, she could not support her three children, so she embarked on the dangerous journey to the United States. Although this was tough on her as well as her children, she knew this was the best option. Because of her sacrifice, her children now have a better future, thus, she feels accomplished. This scholarship is to pay it forward, so that Dream students know that the Mt. SAC community and this family believes in Dreamers. There are supporters who will be on their side as they continue on with their journey.

EOPS Scholarship	Dr. Julieta Marquez	The EOPS Program at Mt. SAC offers a scholarship to an eligible student in the program. The scholarship was established to recognize and support a student who has demonstrated outstanding scholastic and personal achievements and who is transferring to a four-year institution.
EOPS/CARE Transfer Scholarship	Natalie & Miguel Paredes	The EOPS Transfer Scholarship seeks to honor the personal commitment and academic success of an active Mt. SAC EOPS student, who is first in their family to attend college, who demonstrates financial need and plans to transfer to a four-year university this upcoming fall. In 2019, EOPS of the California Community Colleges celebrates 50 years of student success, 1969 to 2019.
Eric M. Goldstein Memorial Scholarship	The Friends & Family of Eric Goldstein	Eric Goldstein attended Mt. SAC until his death at the age of 21 in August of 2002. This scholarship, set up by his mother, Nancy Goldstein, is designed to assist students who, like Eric, had to work because they did not qualify for financial aid.
ESL Scholarship	Mt. SAC ESL Department	The ESL Scholarship recognizes both current and former ESL students. Awarded in two categories, awards are given to exceptional ESL students who are transitioning into credit courses as well as to students presently in the credit program who were formerly ESL students.
Esther & Edward Walters Merit Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	Esther C. & Edward M. Walters	Esther and Edward Walters were well known in the Covina area for their involvement in community activities. Mrs. Walters was a past president of the Covina Woman’s Club. Mr. Walters was Secretary/Manager of the Covina Irrigation Company for over 40 years. Mr. Walters was also a member of the Mt. SAC Foundation Board the year the Foundation was formed. The scholarship is given to students with high academic achievements who have been actively involved in campus and community activities.

This award is intended to assist DREAM students reach their full potential in achieving a higher education, as well as honor the “pay it forward” attitude that Frank believed in.
Franklin McClintock Scholarship	Dr. James and Patricia Hampton, Robert and Jennifer Gernhart	The study of biology has transformed the modern world. Innovations in agriculture, biotechnology, ecology, and medicine all start with this subject. Biologists make the world a better place. With this award we seek to support a student who will use their degree to make the world and local community a better place. Community college students often face hardships that can affect school performance. A perfect GPA is not necessary to receive this award- just a great work ethic and a commitment to serve others.
Friendship Garden Club Scholarship	Friendship Garden Club	The Friendship Garden Club was established in West Covina in 1949 for the purpose of advancing home and community beautification. This scholarship is awarded each year to a deserving horticulture student.

Future Counselor Scholarship in memory of Shonnardo Bodie	Alana Bachor & Sara Mestas	This scholarship was created in memory of Shonnardo Bodie, who was diagnosed with cancer soon after submitting his applications to graduate schools to peruse a Master of Counseling degree. This scholarship is intended for anyone with the dream of giving back to the community by becoming a college counselor, just as Bodie had.
Gabriel & Sonia Campos Scholarship	The Children & Family of Gabriel & Sonia Campos	This award was established to honor Gabriel and Sonia Campos who have attained personal achievement in spite of educational, cultural, and financial barriers while instilling the importance of family values, work-ethic and success in higher education in their children and grandchildren. Gabriel is a long-time classified employee of Mt. SAC and Sonia is a veteran employee of Cal Poly Pomona University. After putting their own college dreams on hold to raise their family, both Sonia and Gabriel dedicated their careers to working in higher education while tirelessly supporting their own children in completing degrees at SDSU, USC, and ULV. This award is given to first-generation college students who have overcome hardships while demonstrating academic and personal achievement.
George A. Steward II Memorial Scholarship	George & Adrienne Steward	The Mt. SAC student body lost a member of its family on October 18, 2015. George Andrew Steward II, the long snapper #79 on the Mt. SAC Football Team, along with his girlfriend, Sabrina Castillo, had their lives cut short by a tragic car accident. This scholarship is a tribute to their memory.

Harriet Genung Music Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	Harriet Genung	A former Head Librarian at Mt. SAC, Ms. Genung had a passion for vocal music and bequeathed a scholarship to honor promising vocal students.
Harry L. Merrill Memorial Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	The Friends & Family of Harry Merrill	Mr. Harry Merrill of La Puente died in 1970 at the age of 92 leaving a bequest to the Mt. SAC Foundation “for the purpose of establishing and maintaining a scholarship for students of high scholastic standing."
Helen C. Borer Memorial Scholarship	Dr. Beta Meyer	This scholarship is given in memory of Helen C. Borer who encouraged her children to follow their dreams and always make the best of any situation. A strong woman who valued education, although she never earned a degree herself, she believed in investing in the future of those who showed promise, especially in the biological sciences.
Help Me, Help You by Diana Felix Scholarship	Diana Felix	As Mt. SAC alumni and campus figures, Felix and Pratt, created this award to demonstrate their commitment to education. This award is intended to be a catalyst for self- sufficient leaders in society. “We believe one kind act deserves another. Students today can be our scholarship donors of the future. Sometimes all one needs is a push and a purpose.”
HMC Designing Futures Foundation: Bridge to College Scholarship	HMC Architects Designing Futures Foundation	The purpose of this award is to support a student who studies architecture at Mt. SAC, will transfer to an accredited architecture program, and will eventually become licensed as an architect.
Hope Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	Anonymous	The Hope Scholarship provides funds for a student with a great appreciation of college education in the U.S., through personal experience in a developing country.

International Student Program Scholarship	SLM Warehousing Group	The International Student Program Scholarship is designated for Mt. SAC students who are involved in the International Student Program (ISP). The aims of the ISP and its scholarship recipients play a critical role in increasing campus globalization, cultural exchange, and cultural enrichment through participation in programs, events, activities, workshops, and much more.
Isabel Robertson Child Development Memorial Scholarship	Family of Isabel Robertson	This award is for a student who has completed a minimum of two Child Development & Education core courses (6 units). This student must be currently employed in an early care and education program.
Jeff A. Deets Psychiatric Technician Scholarship	Family of Jeff A. Deets	The purpose of this scholarship is to provide annual awards for students currently enrolled in the Mt. San Antonio College Psychiatric Technician Program. This scholarship is meant to support students who understand the value of and demonstrate a commitment to public service.
Jeff Truman Memorial Scholarship	The Truman Family	Jeff Truman was a pole vaulter and a graduate of Mt. SAC. Jeff went on to compete and graduate with a degree in Psychology from Cal State Long Beach. Jeff was a loving and caring person and this scholarship is in his memory.
Jesse Rodelas Memorial Scholarship	Christopher, Natalia & Marisa Fierro	This memorial scholarship, named after Jesus (Chuy) Rodelas (1952- 2016), is to honor students in Performing or Fine Arts Programs. Chuy, born and raised in El Paso, Texas, used his talents as an artist and craftsman in tireless support of local arts and Habitat for Humanity. He was a voracious reader, especially of history, and knew that the arts, especially theater and music, were a vital part of society, bringing joy and beauty to our lives. He would be proud to honor students in the Performing or Fine Arts.
Joe Fierro Memorial Scholarship	Christopher, Natalia, & Marisa Fierro	This memorial scholarship, named after Joe Fierro (1939- 2006), is established to honor students in the welding program. Joe dropped out of high school after being humiliated by an English teacher because he could not read. Despite this learning disability, he was a natural mechanical expert. He started as a welder and became a successful plant manager in the steel fabricating business. He added his creative ability to his welding skills and built a car from the ground up, including the molds to build turn-key models. He would be proud to honor students in the welding program.

Jonah Jeremiah Lavata’i Memorial Scholarship	Pete, Elsie, & Sally Thompson	Jonah was a defensive lineman during the 2012-2013 season, and a Mountie at heart. He was also a member of the Arise Program. This scholarship was established in memory of our beloved nephew Jonah, whose light was dimmed way too soon at the age of 32 on July 20, 2022. It shall benefit a member of the Arise Program, including, but not limited to, a student-athlete to whom music is an important part of life. Jonah had an ear for music and was a naturally gifted musician. He grew up singing in church at a very young age, started playing the ukulele at 10 years old and the guitar shortly thereafter. Jonah was a humble, respectful, intelligent, and easy-going gentle giant who was steadfast in his faith in God and his loyalty to family and friends. He cut an imposing figure (literally and figuratively) and touched the lives of many in positive and impactful ways. Our wish, in Jonah’s memory, is to impact the life of a fellow Arise student-athlete.

Joshua’s dream was to attend Mt. SAC’s Fire Program and become a firefighter and paramedic. Therefore, this scholarship honors those with his dream.
Joshua Rosenthal Memorial Scholarship	Dr. Beta Meyer	This scholarship was established in memory of a close personal friend who lost his life in the fateful tragedy of September 11, 2001. It is designed to support students who combine their study of biology with the study of business, using this background in their pursuit of a career requiring knowledge from both disciplines.
Juliet and Peter Hidalgo Public Relations Scholarship	Trustee Peter Hidalgo	The Peter & Juliet Hidalgo Public Relations Scholarship was created to inspire and empower Mt. San Antonio College students to pursue excellence in public relations and communications. As a dynamic field that bridges organizations and communities, public relations plays a vital role in fostering trust, sharing stories, and driving positive change. This $3,000 scholarship, generously funded by Trustee Peter Hidalgo, Board President of Mt. San Antonio College, and his wife Juliet, reflects their passion for nurturing the next generation of PR professionals who will champion authenticity, innovation, and inclusivity in their work. This scholarship supports students who demonstrate a commitment to leveraging communication to build relationships, advance causes, and make a meaningful difference in their communities. It seeks to remove barriers to success, recognizing students with the drive and talent to thrive in this influential field.
Kaiser Permanente Radiologic Technology Scholarship	Southern California Kaiser Permanente Diagnostic Imaging	The purpose of this scholarship is to assist Radiologic Technology students with financial help while they are enrolled full-time in the Radiologic Technology Program. The award aims to encourage radiologic technology students to continue their education, as well as reward outstanding students. It is anticipated that as a result of the scholarship, recipients will be less burdened with financing their education so that they can succeed in the program by spending more time studying and less time working.
Kaiser Permanente Regional Laboratories Scholarship	Kaiser Permanente Regional Reference Laboratories	The purpose of this award is to provide financial assistance for deserving students who are enrolled in the Histologic Technician Program.
Karen Gose Memorial Scholarship	The Haussamen Family	Karen Gose loved life and dedicated herself to helping others. She worked as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for seven years before carrying that dedication over to nursing school. On June 16, 2012, Karen graduated from the Mt. SAC Nursing Program. On July 24, 2012, Karen passed away. A week after her death, she officially received her RN license. Karen’s loved ones have set up this fund to keep her spirit and dedication to nursing alive. Through this endowed scholarship, other Emergency Medical Technicians and Nursing students will be helped in the pursuit of their dream of becoming nurses. Karen’s love of life and enthusiasm for helping others will live on in the generations of nurses this scholarship will assist.
Karen Holte Memorial Nursing Scholarship	Dr. Kirby Holte	Karen Holte was a resident and full-time volunteer in the City of Walnut from 1971 until her passing in 2010. Her family has chosen to honor her through an endowed annual scholarship of $1,000 to assist Mt. SAC Nursing Department students in their pursuit of licensure as a Registered Nurse. Karen and her family believed that nursing is the very backbone of medical practice and patient care. There is no better way to honor her than to see deserving students complete the Mt. SAC Nursing program and graduate as an RN.

This student has completed a minimum of 18 child development & education units with a minimum 3.0 GPA, has substantial unmet financial need and demonstrates an ongoing commitment to the well-being of children and families.
Kay Ragan Student Government Leadership Award Scholarship	Dr. Kay E. Ragan	This scholarship is awarded in recognition of a student who has shown growth in leadership as a member of the Mt. SAC Student Government.
Kepler Scholarship	Astronomy Department	The Mt. SAC Astronomy Department awards this scholarship annually to outstanding students who have completed astronomy coursework and/or contributed toward the advancement of the College’s Astronomy Program. Students currently enrolled at Mt. SAC are selected based on academic achievement and program participation. The program is funded through contributions made by donors and from the proceeds of an annual fundraising dinner featuring a prominent speaker from the field of astronomy or space science.
Kinesiology Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	Mt. SAC Foundation and Kinesiology and Athletics Division	Mt. SAC is home to the state’s most successful community college athletics program. Since the awards inception in 2004, the Mt. SAC Athletics Program has captured eight National Association of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup Championships, as the states most outstanding overall (men’s and women’s) athletics program. The men and women student-athletes at Mt. SAC have captured 75 state championships and 12 South Coast Conference Athletic Supremacy Award Titles (inception in 2001). In 2015, Mt. SAC was also crowned the Learfield Sports Directors Cup Champions as the nation’s top overall community college sports program. The championship program currently offers 23 intercollegiate sports and is an integral part of the College’s overall education offerings. The spirit of Mt. SAC Student-Athletes success on the field and in the classroom is celebrated by this award.

Leticia A. Network Transfer Scholarship	Natalie & Miguel Paredes	Leticia A. Network Transfer Scholarship pays homage to southern California educators in the 1990's and early 2000's who came together to support the growing population of undocumented immigrant students seeking access to California colleges. Leticia A. was an undocumented student who entered UC Berkeley in 1984. She had been identified as an undocumented student and the university initiated a lawsuit against her. What resulted from that lawsuit was the landmark "Leticia A." case, and the ruling that followed, served as the legal precursor to the California Dream Act. This scholarship recognizes a Mt. SAC Dream student, active in the Dream program, who is transferring in the upcoming fall to a four-year university.
LGBTQ Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	James D. Nguyen, J.D.	The Mt. SAC Pride Center is a resource center and lounge space for the LGBTQ community and its allies/advocates. The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize a student involved with the Mt. SAC Pride Center. This scholarship was established by distinguished attorney and Mt. SAC Alumnus James “Jimmy” Nguyen, J.D. Mr. Nguyen has enjoyed a meteoric career since graduating from UCLA at age 19, while attending Mt. SAC concurrently, and from the USC Law Center as the youngest member of his class at age 22. As an alumni, he has returned to Mt. SAC to help coach and prepare Forensics Team members for speech tournaments. In 2010, Mr. Nguyen was bestowed the honor of Mt. SAC Alumnus of the Year.
Liesel Reinhart Forensics Team Scholarship	Friends and former students of Dr. Reinhart	Dr. Liesel Reinhart is a force in the realm of community college education, advocacy, and allyship. She dedicated her forensic career to giving underrepresented students a voice and a home on campus, and she continues to be a fierce advocate for equity in everything she does With nearly three decades of teaching experience, including 26 years dedicated specifically to the California Community College system, Dr. Reinhart has left an indelible mark on countless students and colleagues alike. At Mt. San Antonio College, Dr. Reinhart's creative coaching, commitment to excellence and mentorship, and her ability to see the potential in every student, propelled multiple national championship teams in speech and debate. Beyond forensics, she has fostered inclusivity and allyship through serving on Mt. SAC’s first campus equity team, advising the undocumented students club, and helping to open one of the first community college Pride centers in the nation, and the first at Mt. SAC. In 2013, Dr. Reinhart's advocacy for diversity, equity, and inclusion earned her statewide recognition as a recipient of the prestigious Regina Stanback-Stroud Award. Beyond her contributions to higher education, Dr. Reinhart's diverse background extends to television and podcast development and, more recently, parenthood as she and her partner Steve welcomed Madison and Johnny, two remarkable foster children, into their family during the pandemic. The Liesel Reinhart Forensics Team Scholarship was established as a way for forensics alumni to celebrate Dr. Reinhart's enduring legacy by supporting promising students on the forensics team who embody a desire to create change through the power of performance. Through this scholarship, we honor her profound impact on the forensics community, knowing her impact will continue to inspire and uplift students for generations to come.
Lillian D. Lewis Memorial Scholarship	Ms. Carolyn Tyler	Lillian D. Lewis was a devoted family and community member. She was an entrepreneur and a role model who demonstrated her belief in others through her caring and compassionate ways. She will always be loved and admired as the Aunt with the gentle voice who never spoke an unkind word to anyone. This scholarship is dedicated in her memory.
Los Angeles Garden Club Scholarship	Los Angeles Garden Club	The Los Angeles Garden Club is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote interest in gardening and civic beautification by using our natural resources. This scholarship is awarded to deserving horticultural students.

Marco “Marsh” Scholarship	Carol Aldana-Holguin and Guillermo Miranda	This scholarship was set up in honor of our friend Marco “Marsh” who we met while taking BIO 6. Marco was intelligent, optimistic, hard-working, and selfless. He often volunteered his time to participate in causes he believed in. One of Marco’s attributes we admired was his persistence. Despite many obstacles, Marco’s dedication to his studies and most importantly to his family never wavered. It is for this reason we have dedicated the scholarship in his name. We hope by doing so, Marco’s memory will live on.
Marie & J. Leland Mills Leadership Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	Marie and Leland Mills	This scholarship was established in 1969 and is awarded to students continuing their education at Mt. SAC who demonstrate interest and involvement in community and campus life. Mr. Mills, who passed away in 1996, retired as an Associate Principal from Alhambra High School. Marie Mills graduated magna cum laude from Pomona College. She began her career in education in 1931 and joined Mt. SAC in 1946 as Dean of Women. She also became Director of Instruction in 1956, Associate Superintendent of Instruction in 1960, Vice President of Instruction in 1963, and Mt. SAC’s third Superintendent/President from 1969 until 1972.
Marie Helsley Scholarship	Biology Department Faculty	This award is given to honor the instructor who began Mt. SAC’s Anatomy and Physiology curriculum. The award is given annually to a student who maintains a high level of academic achievement, displays helpfulness to other students and instructors, and plans to transfer.
Mark Minor Memorial Scholarship, part of the Associated Students Scholarships	Mt. SAC Associated Students	In remembrance of the late Mark Minor, a former Mt. SAC Associated Students/Student Life Publications Technician, this scholarship is given, in his honor, to students who have shown exemplary campus leadership and service to the College while overcoming personal hardships. For over 20 years, Mark worked closely with students who were involved with clubs, organizations and the Associated Students Government. He loved to interact with ambitious and conscientious students who proved that they could succeed in the classroom while challenged with personal struggles. Mark was passionate about the work he did, and this scholarship recognizes students who are passionate, committed, and dedicated to making a positive difference on campus.
Marny Shay Memorial Scholarship	Mike Shay and Quest Literacy Consortium, Inc.	During her career, Marny Shay worked one-on-one with teen moms enrolled in the Teen Parent Program of the Hacienda LaPuente Unified School District, doing her best to educate them to prepare for their future. Looking back, she said, “The biggest thing my staff and I did was to change the goals and expectations of these young women.” They entered the program just to get a high school education, but over 80% of her students went on to get some type of college education. Marny was forced into retirement because of a physical disability. Her physical challenges only deepened her compassion for others so she continued to volunteer for several non- profits. Despite her health challenges, she remained strong – in her commitment to education and her advocacy for young mothers, their children and individuals with disabilities.
Mary My Chau Maria Dinh Thi Vu Memorial Scholarship	Teresa Pham & Ray Cheng	Mary's full name was as hilarious as she was. She excelled in everything she did and won the hearts of anyone lucky enough to know her. The daughter of Vietnamese refugees, she always knew the importance and privilege placed upon education, especially a higher education and was looking forward to college life after graduating high school. She would have been a first-generation college student, but the world lost her just a month shy of starting. This scholarship is created to honor Mary's memory, by assisting a deserving first-generation college student with the hopes that they are able to pursue the educational goals that Mary was unable to attain herself. It’s also to serve as a gentle reminder that tomorrow is not promised and that education should never be viewed as a chore or obligation, but rather a privilege.
Mathematics & Computer Science Scholarship	Mathematics and Computer Science Department	The scholarship began in 1992 as a way of preserving the memory of Gerald Peter and Joe Franko. It has been extended to include the memory and recognition of all Mt. SAC mathematics and computer science faculty that are no longer with us. Contributions are made by faculty and retirees of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department. To be eligible, students must earn an A in at least three college level mathematics courses and/or computer science courses. This scholarship recognizes and awards students with a great talent and passion in math and computer science.
Mathew Romo Memorial Scholarship	Romo Family and Friends	In loving memory of Mathew Romo. Mathew Romo was born on August 27, 1996. He was 25 years old when he died in a tragic car accident on February 21, 2022. Mathew demonstrated dedication and passion in working hard. He was passionate in everything he set his mind to. He believed that you must work hard every day to achieve what you want in life. Mathew enjoyed family time, art, music, and the automotive industry. His favorite sport was baseball and wanted to make a difference in those who wanted to know more about the sport. He took pride in educating himself in anything he was interested in so that he could share it with others. He was a self-directed and kinesthetic learner. Mathew’s desire for helping others exceeded any expectation of those who met him.
McGowan Business Scholarship	Richard and Dr. Joumana McGowan	The purpose of the McGowan Business Scholarship is to provide an annual award for high achieving students in the Business Division at Mt. San Antonio College. The recipient of the scholarship must be a returning full-time student in good standing with a declared major in either Accounting or Management. Long standing faculty members in the Business Division, Joumana and Richard McGowan wish to recognize and honor academic excellence in the program. To be an eligible recipient of their award, the student must have a 3.5 minimum grade point average.
Michael Thomas Lopez Memorial Scholarship	Lopez Family	In remembrance of Michael Thomas Lopez, with love. Michael was a devoted member of his community and a devoted father. On September 29, 1968, he was born. He had a difficult upbringing and spent a brief time being raised by his grandma. Michael experienced numerous hardships, including abuse, homelessness, and incarceration; yet, after becoming a parent, he completely changed his life. He held the view that to get what you desire in life, you must work hard every day. Baseball was his favorite sport, and he made it known that the Dodgers were the best team. The loves of his life were his five children. In order to provide for his children, he worked many jobs. He coached and assisted others, which helped him become a respected member of his community. Michael worked hard and showed commitment and passion. He put great passion into all he did. Sadly, Michael's diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer in May 2022 presented him with the greatest hurdle. With his Dodger blue jersey, he battled valiantly until his death on August 16, 2022. He used to say before he passed away, "Once I get better, I want to help others," and he can now. He passed away at the young age of 53, leaving his wife and five children to carry on his legacy and promote the interests of passionate parents who wish to further their education. Michael would be honored to assist student parents in realizing their objectives.
Mika Klein Memorial Scholarship	Friends and Family of Mika Klein	This scholarship is in memory of Mika Klein. As Senior Facilities Planner at Mt. SAC, Mika directed the planning of capital projects across campus. Mika was smart, vivacious, boundlessly energetic, raucously funny, warm, friendly, generous, and full of kindness. She loved her work at Mt. SAC, where she wove together her sense of social and environmental justice with her responsibilities as an architectural planner. Mika was also a passionate supporter of scholarships. The award will assist students pursuing a degree in Architecture.
Monira Qutubuddin Memorial Scholarship	The Family and Friends of Monira Qutubuddin	Monira was attending Mt. San Antonio College when she was unexpectedly killed in a freeway shooting. She was a bright, beautiful girl with a passion for helping others. Monira was studying microbiology at Mt. San Antonio College and hoping to transfer to a four-year university to become a physician’s assistant. She was a compassionate human being with a heart of gold and a desire to help others. In honor of her memory, her family and friends have established a scholarship for students, like Monira, who have aspirations of pursuing a career in the medical field. At least one scholarship will be awarded each year to a deserving student, with the hope that these students will carry on Monira's legacy of helping others, which she could not accomplish during her short life.

The scholarship aims to empower first-generation college students by providing them with the means to excel in higher education, ultimately enhancing their opportunities for personal and professional growth. It seeks to foster a supportive environment that recognizes the achievements and potential of these students, encouraging them to continue their educational journey and become role models for future generations.

Myrtle L. Harvey and Hank P. Harvey Memorial Scholarship	Dr. Linda Chatters	The Myrtle L. Harvey and Hank P. Harvey Memorial Scholarship honors the memory and legacy of Myrtle and Hank who lived remarkable lives caring for family, friends, and community. This scholarship provides financial support to a Mt. SAC student to fulfill their educational journey. The scholarship will be awarded to a First-Generation college student who has been in the foster care system, and/or a student with undocumented citizenship status with a career interest in social work or health.

Natalie Morgan Memorial Scholarship	Natalie Morgan	Natalie Morgan, a former Mt. SAC employee, left a bequest to the Mt. SAC Foundation. The Foundation has chosen to award an annual scholarship in the late Ms. Morgan’s name for an architecture major, or student in the art field.
Native Indigenous Scholarship, part of the Associated Students Scholarships	Mt. SAC Associated Students	This scholarship was established to recognize individuals with sensitivity towards native peoples and their encouragement of the educational success and advancement of first peoples and native students.
Ned Carter Memorial Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	The Estate of Eileen Carter	Ned Carter served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a master mechanic and machinist for Sunkist Field Research and Engineering Division where he managed an experimental machine shop. After retirement, he remained active as a consultant to Sunkist R&E and held several offices in the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. The Ned Carter Memorial Scholarship was established in 1995 to honor Ned Carter. The scholarship supports a student enrolled in a Pre- Veterinary Sciences Program, another interest of the late Mr. Carter.
Nikita Spurlock Imam Memorial Scholarship	Dr. Monawar Sultana	These awards honor the memory of Nikita Spurlock Imam. Nikita was a student in the Computer Information Systems Department at Mt. San Antonio College when he passed away in October 2021. Nikita was a creative writer and artist. He created and illustrated beautiful and amazing characters who came from the future and from space. Nikita was full of life and always optimistic. He was someone who could walk into any room and immediately lighten the mood. His ability to connect with people was a testament to how humble and down to earth he was. Nikita wanted those around him to have a good time. His positive attitude always allowed him to see the good in the bad. Nikita’s unwavering spirit allowed him to face challenges head on and come out on top. Nikita was a very good friend and ready to help anyone. He never made judgments about people. He was never afraid to speak his truth. Nikita enjoyed hiking, walking on the beach and playing video games. He also had a great love for animals. Nikita understood the importance of education and worked very hard to achieve his degree. These scholarships aim to help Nikita’s legacy live on through the education and achievements of the recipients. We will never forget Nikita and he will live with us forever and continue to shine his unwavering light.
Olin & Jessie Wolfinbarger Family Scholarship	O.F. Wolfinbarger Inc.	Olin and Jessie Wolfinbarger started their business, O.F. Wolfinbarger, Inc. in 1929 in Chino, California. They began with a working farm with animals, vegetables and fruit. Then along the way they cleaned out cattle corrals and with their sons hauled the manure to the orange groves in the foothills. Olin and Jessie were a big part of F.F.A. as well as many agriculture departments as their children grew and they worked for the family business. O.F. Wolfinbarger, Inc., is now owned and operated by the third and fourth generations. The importance of agriculture is important with the Wolfinbarger family and with Mt. SAC's scholarship program their legacy will continue to help students and the future of agriculture.

This scholarship is awarded to deserving students who are current or former residents of Orange County and who plan to pursue a career in the agriculture industry in or around Orange County, CA.

Parent Institute Scholarship	Anonymous	The Parent Institute Scholarship was established by a Mt. SAC Foundation supporter who appreciates the unique challenges that parenting students face while pursuing their education with limited resources.
Patricia L. Perez Memorial Scholarship	Chemistry Department Faculty	Pat Perez (November 3, 1943 – January 26, 2024) was a pioneering chemist and educator, the first Latina to receive a Master's Degree in Chemistry from UCLA. Starting her career in 1968 at Mt. San Antonio College, she became the department's first female Latina full-time professor, eventually rising to Department Chair. Throughout her 34-year tenure, retiring in August 2002, Pat significantly impacted chemistry, co-leading Project Inclusion (PI). This initiative, supported by the National Science Foundation and the Chemical Heritage Foundation, aimed to increase chemistry's diversity by attracting underrepresented students. Pat's leadership in PI highlighted and supported the roles of women, physically challenged individuals, and diverse ethnic, racial, and cultural groups in chemistry, providing educators with valuable resources and strategies to empower these communities.
Patrick and Joan Mauch Memorial Scholarship	Thomas Mauch	This award honors the memory of Patrick and Joan Mauch. Patrick and Joan Mauch were married for 41 years and believed that a higher education degree creates an opportunity to succeed in life no matter what socio- economic status background you have. They were also strong advocates for Mt. San Antonio College. Seven of their nine children attended Mt. SAC. Patrick Mauch worked for Hacienda La Puente Unified School District for 34 years at all three high schools. He was a counselor and coach at La Puente, an Assistant Principal at Workman and Principal at Los Altos. He loved working with students and did not miss a day of work in 34 years. This scholarship is in their honor, to a Mt. SAC baseball player, with a goal of transferring to a university.

Pervez Akhtar Memorial Scholarship	Zohra Pervez	Pervez Akhtar was a man who greatly supported higher education. He was an immigrant from Pakistan whose only dream was to provide a better life for his family, and he did just that. All 3 of his daughters attended Mt. SAC and went on to become successful leaders in their respective fields. This scholarship is awarded to an individual who is pursuing a career in the field of healthcare or education, and has a passion for helping others and making a positive difference in people’s lives.
Pete & Caroline Reynolds Family Scholarship	The Family & Friends of Pete & Caroline Reynolds	Pete Reynolds and his wife of 64 years, Caroline, were longtime supporters of Mt. San Antonio College and the Mt. SAC Foundation. Their many philanthropic activities at Mt. SAC included public art projects, athletics, scholarships and other Foundation initiatives, including the Mt. SAC Foundation Golf Tournament. Born and raised in Covina, Pete joined the Navy, then returned to attend Mt. SAC before transferring to UC Berkeley. A lover of art and an artist herself, Caroline served as a member of the Mt. SAC Public Arts Committee. She championed the efforts of art in public spaces throughout the campus including the Karl Benjamin mosaic project. Over the years, thousands of Mt. SAC students, student-athletes and community members have benefited from the tremendous generosity of Pete, Caroline and the Reynolds Family.
Pete & Caroline Reynolds Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	Pete and Caroline Reynolds	Pete Reynolds was in the very first class at Mt. San Antonio College. This scholarship is awarded to deserving Business or Fine Arts students.
Phil Maynard Memorial Scholarship, part of the Associated Students Scholarships	Mt. SAC Associated Students	This award honors the memory of beloved Mt. SAC Communications Professor Phillip D. Maynard who taught speech classes at the College for 23 years. Maynard remains “one of the College’s most celebrated and popular faculty members. He not only was a valued faculty leader on our campus, but he was also an impactful leader statewide who worked to improve the quality of instruction for millions of students throughout California.” Maynard began teaching at Mt. SAC full- time in 1990. He was actively involved in addressing diversity on campus through extensive faculty training, and he developed the College’s inter-cultural communication course. He served as an advisor to various student organizations at Mt. SAC, including the Muslim Student Association, the Inter-Cultural Awareness Council, the Associated Students, and others. He also mentored innumerable students across all cultures and was highly regarded by those he taught in his popular speech communications classes and by those he coached on Mt. SAC’s nationally ranked Forensics Team.

Pomona Rotary Club Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	Pomona Rotary Club	The Rotary Club of Pomona is dedicated to serving local, national, and international communities through fundraising efforts and hands-on service projects. Their projects range from providing books to Pomona elementary schools to providing clean water to the impoverished in third-world countries. This scholarship was established to assist Mt. SAC students in the city of Pomona.
Pomona Talent Scholarship	Alvarado Family	This scholarship is to recognize a talented current Mt. SAC student who graduated from a Pomona Unified School District (PUSD) high school and demonstrates commitment to their education despite hardships.
Pomona Valley Pilots Association Scholarship	Pomona Valley Pilot Association	The Pomona Valley Pilot’s Association (PVPA) was started in 1960 to promote general aviation and flying in the San Gabriel Valley and its local airports. The PVPA has been a strong supporter of aviation education and has offered aviation scholarships to Mt. SAC students for more than two decades. The funds are generated through the proceeds of the Cable Airshow, which is held each January. The scholarships are given to students studying to become air traffic controllers, aviation maintenance technicians, and commercial pilots.
Pritzker Foster Care Initiative REACH Guardian Scholars Program Scholarship	Anthony & Jeanne Pritzker Family Foundation	For over a decade, the Anthony & Jeanne Pritzker Family Foundation has been investing in strengthening many of the unique institutions that define Los Angeles. The Foundation aims to enrich our community not just for the present, but for generations to come, with particular focus on medicine, higher education, the environment and the arts. In 2014, The Foundation launched Pritzker Foster Care Initiative to highlight its commitment to supporting transition age foster youth and the families that care for them.
Professor Sandon Larson Memorial Scholarship	Friends, Family, and Colleagues of Sandon Larson	The purpose of the Sandon Larson Memorial scholarship is to support a student that is determined to obtain higher education despite setbacks in honor of our colleague that had a huge impact on the Mt. SAC Sign Language and Interpreting Program. Our friend Sandon Larson passed away too early and had a huge influence over many people. As a Deaf person, he held a special place in his students' hearts by sharing the love for his language of ASL and Deaf Culture with many people.
Purkhiser Family Scholarship	The Friends and Family of Earl Purkhiser	This award was established in 1994 as a memorial to Earl Purkhiser for his many contributions to the educational and civic communities that he served during his 40 years as a Covina resident. Mr. Purkhiser was an instructor of Economics and Accounting at Mt. SAC from 1958 until his retirement in 1986. During his tenure, he served as President of both the Academic Senate and Faculty Association. He was honored as Educator of the Year at Mt. SAC in 1982. He also was the recipient of the Business Faculty Role Model Award in 1986 and the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award in 1989. Mr. Purkhiser tirelessly committed himself to improving the lives of others through his activism in education and community service.
Ralph Spaulding Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	Mr. Ralph Spaulding	Created by Mt. SAC veteran history Professor Ralph Spaulding, this scholarship aims to support students succeeding in their educational journey. Professor Spaulding has taught thousands of students and is grateful for the opportunity to improve the quality of their lives. He strongly believes in the mission of Mt. SAC and this scholarship aims to further a student’s access to learning.
Reach for Success Scholarship	Kriistal Bilderbach & Joe Hernandez	This scholarship is established to support a student who was previously in the foster care system and who has demonstrated commitment to their education while confronting personal challenges and experiencing financial hardship.
Redinger Family Earth & Space Science Research Grant	Mr. Larry Redinger	The Earth and Space Science Research Grant (ESSRG) is designed to support research and scientific investigations undertaken by Mt. San Antonio College students on a systematic basis to increase the knowledge base within the Earth and Space Sciences. The primary purposes of this basic research are for documentation, discovery, interpretation, or the research and development of methods and systems for the advancement of knowledge.
Roberta L. Meek Memorial Scholarship	Barjona S. Meek Family Trust	The Meek family lived in Covina for over twenty years. Three generations of the family have attended Mt. SAC. Roberta and her husband, B.J., valued education and had a love for the outdoors. This scholarship is given to outstanding students in biology, wildlife, or other natural sciences in honor of Roberta L. Meek and the contributions she made in the lives of her family and friends.
Roberta M. Berns Child Development Legacy Scholarship	The Berns Family	This endowed scholarship is a tribute to Roberta M. Berns, who taught at Saddleback College for 30 years. Roberta is author to the best-selling Child, Family, School, Community: Socialization and Support. The textbook has been adopted by hundreds of colleges worldwide and examines how school, family, and community influence children's socialization. Roberta Berns founded and chaired the Human Development Department at Saddleback College and also served as a professor at the University of California, Irvine. Roberta's husband, Dr. Michael Berns, is a renowned UC Irvine Microbiologist Professor/Researcher and co-founder of the Beckman Laser Institute. Michael and Roberta were high school sweethearts; both attended Cornell University and shared 56 years together before she passed away in the Spring of 2015. One of their two children is Tammy Karn, a longtime faculty member in the Mt. SAC English Department.
Ruth Woolman Memorial Scholarship	Dr. Beta Meyer	This scholarship honors a family member who served as a World War II nurse. She spent much of her life fighting severe health problems after contracting TB. She dedicated her life, having never married, to helping others. This scholarship is awarded to a student interested in the health profession or an allied health field.
Sakura Finetek Scholarship	Sakura Finetek USA	This award, sponsored by Sakura Finetek USA, is given annually to an outstanding histotechnology student and recognizes his/her achievement in the field of Histology.
Sarah J. Geer Memorial Scholarship	Mindy Drue	Mindy Molisee was a scholarship recipient while a student at Mt. SAC. She was determined to one day provide her own scholarship for Mt. SAC students in pursuit of their educational goals. She established this scholarship in honor of her grandmother who was a significant influence in her life.
Shadé Darnell Healthcare Scholarship	Shadé Darnell	Going to Mt. SAC was the best decision I made for myself. I truly enjoyed every moment I spent on campus and was proud to be involved in the LEAD and Honors Program and even Vice President of Service in Phi Theta Kappa where I gained invaluable leadership and service skills. I was blessed enough to be chosen to be in the Nursing Program which commenced my journey in the healthcare field. I was the lucky recipient of scholarships at Mt. SAC and because of this wonderful institution and all they have done for me I wish to do the same for other students.
Shar Anderson Memorial Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	The Friends and Family of Sharlene Anderson	This scholarship honors “Shar,” who was both a mathematician and an athlete.
Sherry Neilia Barber Memorial Scholarship	The Barber Family	This scholarship is given in memory of Sherry Barber who was a prolific writer, 2nd grade teacher, English major and graduate of California State University, Fullerton in 1965. Sherry had an amazing ability to express herself with words and connect with others, handwriting letters to friends and former students almost daily. This scholarship is intended to support English literature majors and their lifelong love of writing.
Shonnardo Bodie MMI Scholarship	Anonymous	The Shonnardo Bodie MMI Scholarship was created to provide support for participants involved with MMI. The scholarship aims to provide recognition, financial and emotional support and to increase our participants' completion of their educational goals. Through this award, we hope to continue to reinforce our participants’ sense of belonging within our Mt. SAC Brotherhood.
Shu Kin Chiu Memorial Scholarship	The Chiu Family	The Shu Kin Chiu Memorial Scholarship is given to a Mt. SAC student who has a passion to become a teacher in a STEM (Science, Technology, Education, and Math) field. This scholarship honors the legacy of a much loved math teacher, Shu Kin Chiu, who had a tremendous impact not only in the lives of her children and family, but also on hundreds of students. Shu Kin was born in 1938 in Yangon, Myanmar (formerly Rangoon, Burma), a country in Southeast Asia. Having been impressed by her grandfather of the importance of education, she fought prevailing customs and pressure to marry at the young age of seventeen, and became the first in her family to attend college. She excelled in school, particularly in mathematics, and was awarded a medal for academic excellence when she entered the university. After completing her degree, she taught math at the elementary school level before getting married to an electrical engineer. She was a loving mom who devoted herself to her five children while pursuing her passion for teaching, going above and beyond the classroom as she strove to improve the lives of her students, many of whom lived in poverty. She instilled in her children and students the values of compassion, honesty, independence, and a love for learning. She left the teaching profession when she immigrated to this country in 1979, but continued using her math skills as a clerk in an insurance company. After battling cancer for two years, she finally passed away in 2005. She is dearly missed by all who knew her, and it is the family’s hope that her legacy of academic excellence and teaching will continue through the awarding of this scholarship to a deserving student.

SLM Group Holding - Zhu's STEM Scholarship	Angela Zhu	Angela Zhu is the CPO, and one of the owners, of SLM Holdings. She established this scholarship to support a student studying in a STEM field. As an alumna of both Mt. SAC and USC, Zhu is committed to empowering others to pursue higher education. She and her company made the decision to be more involved in the community. They created this award with the hope that it will encourage students to use their skills to change the world.
Sophia B. Clarke Memorial Journalism Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	Sophia B. Clarke	Sophia Clarke started her association with Mt. San Antonio College when the College first opened its doors in 1947. She, along with her popcorn wagon, became a virtual fixture at every game and event held on campus. She continued to operate the concession stand for over 30 years and remained a spirited fan of the College until her passing. This is only one of her many contributions to the College. This award recognizes an exceptional student who is pursuing a career in journalism.
Sophia B. Clarke Personal Achievement Scholarship, part of the Associated Students Scholarships	Mt. SAC Associated Students	This scholarship, named in honor of Sophia B. Clarke, awards students who have overcome personal hardships and are committed to succeeding in their pursuit of a higher education.
Soward & Friends Business Division Scholarship, part of The Osher Initiative for California Community College Students	John R. Soward and Friends	Mr. Soward has had a long relationship with Mt. SAC as he attended Mt. SAC as a senior in high school. Mr. Soward created this award to help students achieve their educational dreams. The Soward & Friends Business Division Scholarship is given to a current business student.
STEM Scholarship, part of the Associated Students Scholarships	Mt. SAC Associated Students	This scholarship acknowledges outstanding Mt. SAC students who have demonstrated exemplary involvement and passion in the field of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Still We Rise Scholarship	Joe Louis and Arpi Hernandez	The Still We Rise Scholarship was created to help students who have been impacted directly by mass incarceration. The purpose of the scholarship is to help mitigate the collateral consequences of incarceration. The scholarship seeks to foster a sense of belonging to the Mountie community for an under recognized student population. Finally, in the process, giving light to the student’s resilience as they rise to accomplish their educational goals.
Student Life Mark Minor Memorial Scholarship	Mt. SAC Student Life	In remembrance of the late Mark Minor, a former Mt. SAC Associated Students/Student Life Publications Technician, this scholarship is given in his honor to students who have shown a passion to succeed and excel in school while being a parent. For over 20 years, Mark worked closely with students who were involved with clubs, organizations and student government. He loved to interact with ambitious and conscientious students who proved that they could succeed within the classroom while balancing other areas of their lives. Mark was passionate about the work he did, and this scholarship recognizes students who are passionate, committed, and dedicated to succeed.
Takeo Uesugi Memorial Scholarship	Uesugi Family	This memorial scholarship is in honor of Reverend Takeo Uesugi, who dedicated his life to helping those in need through his ministry, inspiring students as an educator, and bringing joy to others through his design of Japanese gardens. As the youngest of five children, Takeo grew up in poverty in the war-torn city of Osaka, Japan following World War II, but described his life as rich with love from the support of his family and church members. He was a first-generation college student who faced numerous obstacles as a college student in the U.S. and later as an immigrant but used these experiences to inspire his humanitarian work for over 50 years. The Takeo Uesugi Memorial Scholarship is awarded to support students who have experienced challenges with culture, language, immigration, financial circumstances, and/or are the first in their family to attend college.
Tan-Goulet Scholarship	Mt. SAC Communications Department	Colleen Woo Tan was raised in Hong Kong and was a longtime resident of Whittier, California. Colleen studied English and American literature at Indiana University, graduated magna cum laude and later obtained her masters degree in literature as well. She was the first Asian American instructor hired by the Mt. San Antonio College. She was a professor of English and Speech Communication at Mt. SAC for the next 49 years! Over the last several decades, Colleen is remembered for her big heart and generosity, her beautiful smile, her sense of style and love for haute couture. Helen Goulet attended Muskingum College in Ohio with a Bachelor's Degree in the double majors of Speech Arts and Political Science. She obtained a Master's Degree in Speech Arts and Education from the University of Pittsburgh. Helen was active in local politics and was active in the League of Women Voters. She was elected to two terms on the East Whittier City School District Board of Trustees, including service as president. She taught classes for the inmates at the women's prison in Frontera. At Mt. San Antonio College, Helen was a coach for the Speech and Debate Team, president of the Academic Senate and the chair of the campus-wide accreditation committee.

This scholarship is designed to support and recognize outstanding achievements, dedication, and promise in academic pursuits.

Preference is given to Honors students affiliated with the REACH, Dream, or ACCESS Programs who are transferring in the upcoming summer or fall term.

University Club of Claremont Scholarship	University Club of Claremont	The University Club of Claremont is an association of university and college graduates, professional people and community leaders committed to intellectual curiosity and inquiry while supporting educational opportunities within the community.
Violeta Arrata Scholarship	Rafael Agustin Guerrero	Violeta Arrata was a medical doctor in Ecuador, South America, who came to the United States in search of a better life for her family. While undocumented in those early years, Violeta took full advantage of Mt. San Antonio College night classes to learn English, and eventually became a nurse at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena. This scholarship is a way to highlight the sacrifice immigrants of all ages make in order to advance their careers and provide for their families.
Visosky Weskamp Family Scholarship	Tom and Mary Lou Visosky	Tom and Mary Lou Visosky have been a part of the Mt. SAC Agriculture department for over 60 years. Mary Lou’s father, Herman Weskamp was one of the original agriculture professors who lived on the campus when Mary Lou was born. "Wes" inspired Tom to also become an agriculture professor. They both dedicated their careers to Mt. SAC. Wes 33 years and Tom 36 years. The family’s legacy continues today, both on the farm and in the classroom. They continue to support Mt. SAC students on their educational path toward a career in agriculture specializing in water resources.
Walnut Valley Rotary Club Scholarship	Walnut Valley Rotary Club	Service Above Self Mission Statement: The mission of Rotary International is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders. The Walnut Valley Rotary Club awards this scholarship to a student attending Mt. SAC from Diamond Bar High School, Walnut High School, Ron Hockwalt High School, Nogales High School, or Rowland High School.
Wesley Ninneman Memorial Scholarship	The Friends & Family of Wesley Ninneman	Mr. Ninneman taught foreign languages at Mt. SAC from 1956 to 1963. From 1951 to 1957, he served as a part-time translator for Atomics International. Mr. Ninneman held memberships in the American Association of Teachers of German, C.T.A., National Education Association and the F.A.C.C.C. He was well-traveled and fluent in six languages. This scholarship, established in his memory in 1988, is given to a student of outstanding academic achievement in the field of foreign language.

William David Mac Neil Memorial Scholarship	William M. and Anne H. Mac Neil	This scholarship lovingly honors the legacy of William David Mac Neil who held a great admiration for orators and writers and thus, is awarded to an outstanding student in the English field.
