Work Experience (WE) Program


WHAT IS WE?

The Work Experience program is designed to give students hands on opportunity to experience their potential career path while earning course credit. Students spend a semester with a law enforcement department and participate in various activities/projects.  It is a golden opportunity to build your resume and professional network.  Participating agencies are Azusa Police Department, Cal Poly Pomona Police Department, Monrovia Park Rangers, Los Angeles County Sheriff, Covina Police Department, ConFire Dispatch, and Mt. SAC Police & Public Safety.

Work Experience is not open to all students.

Students eligible to participate in ADJU 90 Work Experience must have the following:

  • Overall good academic standing
  • Completed a minimum of 12 units of ADJU courses OR Completed one SAMC course
  • Be able to dedicate a minimum of 8 hours per week to the program.

Technology & Health Career Specialist

Lisa Winston, M.S., joined Mt. SAC after working as a career advisor to incoming college students and adults in career transitions. She is the Career Specialist for the Division of Health and Technology.  Her educational background includes a Master’s Degree in Student Affairs Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Counseling. Lisa has experience with individualized and holistic career advising, undecided/undeclared major advising, college teaching, and transitioning students to the collegiate environment. If you are interested in the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge and theory in a real work environment while earning college course credit, contact Lisa. In addition to coordinating the Work Experience Program, Lisa assists Health and Technology students with managing the career cycle, including: resume, cover letter, job applications, interviewing skills and techniques.
