Sociology Presents:

13th Annual Research Showcase and Competition Application

The Sociology Department invites all students from all disciplines to participate in our campus-wide annual undergraduate research event this spring. We will recognize student researchers and their faculty mentors with an exhibit of current projects from multiple disciplines across the college. Six gift card prizes will be awarded this year.

Who Can Submit?

Our annual research event is perfect for students that have: 

  • Completed Research (Abstract, Literature Review, Methods, Data, and Results)
  • Research in progress
  • Research Posters 
  • Literature Reviews

Event Details:

All finalists will have their abstracts showcased at the event where students can vote for their favorites.
Finalists are encouraged to attend and obtain their certificate, but not required to be present.

Event Date & Time: Wednesday, May 6 2026 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm 

Location: Summit Event Center in Building 410 (3rd Floor)

Abstract Applications are due by Monday, April 20, 2026

*Winners will be determined by a panel of faculty judges and peer favorites

The Sociology Department welcomes submissions for the undergraduate research student showcase and competition. We invite the scholarly work of Mt. San Antonio College students from the Humanities and Social Sciences, Business, Natural Sciences, Arts, Humanities, Math, and all are welcomed to submit!

About the submissions:

  • Submission will consist of a 250-400 word abstract and a works cited
  • Submissions can be completed research conducted by the student or group of students with or without the guidance of a faculty mentor
  • Faculty mentors are encouraged to work with students to submit research but are not required to
  • Research topics can come from any academic discipline as long as it is related to peer-reviewed research, methods, and data collection
  • Submission will be an abstract that must summarize the main aims, data (wherever applicable), findings (wherever applicable), and conclusions of the research.
  • The author must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at Mt. San Antonio College.
  • The research cannot have been published.

  • Complete applications and abstracts are due Monday, April 20, 2026

 

Event Details

  • Wednesday, May 6, 2026
  • Time: 11:00am - 2:00pm
  • Location: Summit Event Center in Building 410 (3rd Floor)
  • During our event, all eligible submissions will be showcased; research posters are encouraged
  • Submissions without a research poster will have their abstracts color printed, framed, and respectfully displayed.
  • We will have light snacks and refreshments for attendees. 
  • Students attending the showcase will have the opportunity to select their favorite submission from each of the three categories
  • Extra credit verification for attending our research event will be available at the check-in table

Cash Gift Cards

There will be six cash scholarships awarded this year. A faculty panel will review, rank, and select one winner in each of the three categories (Research in STEM, Research in Social Science, and Literature Reviews and works in progress) Students attending the showcase will have the opportunity to select their favorite submission from each of three categories. Winners will be notified via email and their award will be available for pick up in the sociology department.

  1. $125 for Empirical Research in Social Science, Faculty Selection
  2. $125 for Empirical Research in STEM, Faculty Selection
  3. $50 for Literature Review or Research in Progress, Faculty Selection
  4. $125 for Peer Favorites - Empirical Research in Social Science
  5. $125 for Peer Favorites – Empirical Research in STEM
  6. $50 for Peer Favorites – Literature Review or Research in Progress
