CALVET College Fee Waiver

Financial Assistance for Eligible Dependents of California Veterans

 
The CalVet College Fee Waiver can waive mandatory system-wide tuition and enrollment fees at California Community Colleges, California State Universities, and University of California campuses.
 
NOTE: Application, eligibility and approval is all coordinated directly with CalVet.  
 

WHO MAY QUALIFY?

The CalVet College Fee Waiver may be available to eligible:
  • Children of disabled veterans
  • Spouses of service-connected veterans who are deceased or rated 100% service-connected disabled
  • Children or spouses meeting other qualifying CalVet criteria
Additional eligibility requirements may apply, including California residency and, for some children, an annual income limit.
Important: The CalVet Fee Waiver generally covers mandatory system-wide tuition and enrollment fees. It does not cover expenses such as books, housing, parking, or other non-covered costs.
 

HOW TO APPLY

    • STEP 1 — Apply through CalVet

      Apply for the College Fee Waiver through the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet)If approved, CalVet will issue you an authorization letter confirming your eligibility.

    • STEP 2 — Submit Your Authorization to Mt. SAC
      After receiving your approved authorization letter:
      1. Go to the Mt. SAC Veterans Resource Center Forms page.
      2. Select “Submit Your CalVet Fee Waiver Authorization.”
      3. Complete the online form.
      4. Upload a copy of your approved CalVet authorization letter.
      5. Submit the form to the Mt. SAC VRC.
 

IMPORTANT — SUBMIT EVERY ACADEMIC YEAR

Mt. SAC requires students to submit their approved CalVet Fee Waiver authorization letter each academic year through the VRC's online submission form.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

After your CalVet authorization is submitted, Mt. SAC will process the fee waiver (usually within 5-7 business days).
