Arise Program Grants

Director’s Message

Thank you for landing on this part of the Arise Program Website. This section highlights what drives and supports our programmatic efforts to provide AANHPI students with educational support for their academic, career, and personal leadership development. These occur at multiple levels, in partnership with a network of collaborators from both on- and off-campus. There are frameworks that guide us, which include our institutional, systemic, and legislative priorities (e.g., Vision 2030, Mt. SAC 2035, and CCC AANHPI SAP) that connect to the larger goals of student-centered success outcomes. In consideration of these external influences and because of the voices of our students’ articulated needs, we intentionally design activities that respond to our program’s mission and vision, which promote the holistic development of students and celebrate and uplift the diversity of our AANHPI community.

Description

Mt. SAC is both AANAPISI and HSI federally-designated campus. Although we do not have a current AANAPISI grant award (2024), the Arise Program was established with two AANAPISI Part F Awards (2011 & 2016). Since 2022, the Arise Program began receiving funding through the California Community Colleges Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Student Achievement Program (CCC AANHPI SAP), sometimes referred to as AANHPI SAP.

CCC AANHPI SAP

Mt. SAC is one of 51 AANHPI SAP in the CCC system and the Arise Program is the steward of these funds, working closely with the Grants Office and Fiscal Services to ensure the activities meet compliance and fiscal transparency. There are seven areas of focus that guides intentional programming to support and uplift AANHPI students in their educational experiences. These seven areas include:

  1. Culturally responsive learning communities
  2. Advising and counseling services
  3. Mental health counseling and awareness services
  4. Career development, career readiness, and employment service
  5. Supplemental instruction and tutoring, such as English language development and support
  6. Asian American, Pacific Islander Studies courses and curriculum development
  7. Leadership development, internships, and mentorships
