Meet our Writing Specialists

  • Mia (DS)

Mia Noelle, frequently known as Mia, is a tutor at the Mt. SAC Writing Center and student journalist for the SACMedia publication. Growing up, libraries, which she believes is the birthplace for her love of reading, writing, and storytelling, were always a sanctuary for her. This passion for literature and community is what motivated Mia to major in English and work at the WC; the perfect place on campus that combines the two. During her free time, Mia likes to draw, stargaze, play the guitar, and song-write. A poem that remains very dear to Mia’s heart is Mary Oliver’s “Dogfish;” the poem contains a line that she personally lives by: “Mostly, I want to be kind.”

He loves talking about writing and helping his fellow students, so the job has been very fulfilling and tons of fun. He plans on getting his bachelors in English before going on to earn a master’s in library science. In addition to becoming an academic librarian down the line, Lex’s hope is to someday become a published fiction writer. He has many hobbies and interests, including reading, writing, and painting (mostly pictures of crustaceans, a strong interest of his). After earning his Associates at Mt. SAC, Lex plans on transferring to CSU Monterey Bay, which has the added benefit of a nearby aquarium.

  • Opal (IC)

Opal's name matches their birthstone. Additionally, an expression that has inspired their studies is, “Knowledge speaks but wisdom listens”, by Jimi Hendrix. Moreover, this expression has helped them consider when it is helpful to speak and when it is helpful to listen in their classes and interactions with classmates. Also, they consider being a writing tutor for Mt. Sac’s writing support center a big part of their life because they love to be of service to others. Consequently, they don’t believe they’d be of much service to anyone who needs them if they didn’t advocate for themselves, so they focus on fortifying their physical and mental health with homemade foods and gym trips with their loved ones.
