Jeff Ellwood
Jeff Ellwood is a music professor and was formerly Director of Instrumental Jazz Studies from 2006 to 2025 at Mt. San Antonio College. He is also a professor of music at Cal State Fullerton, since 2003. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from the Berklee College of Music and Master of Music degree from Cal Sate Fullerton. Jeff was a member of the 2002 & 2003 Henry Mancini Institute.
He has studied saxophone and improvisation with: James Moody, Rick Margitza, Ralph Bowen, John Ellis, Joel Frahm, Melissa Aldana, Billy Pierce, George Garzone, Hal Crook, Gary Foster, Eric Marienthal, James Rotter and Charles Richard
Jeff has performed or recorded with: Tony Bennett, Alan Pasqua, the Bill Cunliffe Big Band, Rick Margitza, Jerry Bergonzi, Terell Stafford, Joe LaBarbera, Jimmy Haslip, Dave Carpenter, Darek Oles, James Moody, Randy Brecker, Christian McBride, Bob Mintzer, Eddie Daniels, and Gary Burton
Jeff has been closely working with saxophonists Jerry Bergonzi and Dick Oatts, documenting all of their compositions. This work has created three volumes of Bergonzi fake books entitled The Music of Jerry Bergonzi and recently released book entitled The Compositions of Dick Oatts.
Jeff has written his own book entitled Developing Bebop Lines and is endorsed by Jerry Bergonzi, Dick Oatts, and Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, in addition to a new book entitled The Minor ii-V
Jeff is a Yamaha and Boston Sax Shop endorsing artist.
In 2020, Jeff released his first recoding as a leader entitled The Sounds Around The House featuring Alan Pasqua, Darek Oles, Joe LaBarbera and special guest Bob Sheppard
